Licensed In-Person Mental Health Therapist

Location: Pasadena, CA
Position Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, or Contract

Position Overview

Wings of the Future is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and independently licensed Mental Health Therapist to provide in-person behavioral health services at our office. The therapist will serve individuals, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, family conflict, life transitions, and other emotional or behavioral concerns.

The ideal candidate is committed to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and client-centered care. This position requires strong clinical judgment, professional accountability, timely documentation, reliable on-site attendance, and strict adherence to ethical, legal, and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person individual, couples, and family therapy in a private clinical setting.
  • Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, diagnostic evaluations, risk assessments, and other clinical screenings.
  • Develop individualized and measurable treatment plans based on each client’s symptoms, strengths, needs, and treatment goals.
  • Use evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions to address anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, behavioral concerns, relationship difficulties, stress, and family conflict.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships grounded in empathy, cultural humility, appropriate boundaries, and respect.
  • Help clients develop coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, increase self-awareness, and work toward measurable goals.
  • Monitor client progress and update treatment plans, diagnoses, goals, and interventions as clinically appropriate.
  • Complete progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and other required documentation accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Assess clients for suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, abuse, neglect, domestic violence, substance use, and other safety concerns.
  • Follow organizational procedures for crisis intervention, safety planning, emergency response, mandated reporting, and referrals.
  • Coordinate care with healthcare providers, case managers, schools, community agencies, and other authorized professionals when clinically appropriate and supported by proper consent.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, state licensing regulations, payer requirements, professional ethics, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in case consultations, team meetings, documentation reviews, staff training, and quality-improvement activities.
  • Maintain an active professional license, professional liability insurance, and all required continuing-education hours.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, professional, and therapeutic office environment.
  • Notify leadership promptly of client emergencies, safety concerns, scheduling problems, or facility issues.
  • Remain informed about evidence-based treatment, documentation standards, professional ethics, and applicable behavioral health laws.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
  • Current, active, and unrestricted independent clinical license, such as:
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
    • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
    • Licensed Psychologist
  • Licensed and in good standing in the state where services will be provided.
  • Previous experience providing psychotherapy, counseling, or other behavioral health services.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, risk assessment, crisis response, confidentiality, and mandated-reporting requirements.
  • Ability to practice independently and within the scope of the clinician’s professional license.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport while maintaining appropriate therapeutic boundaries.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records, scheduling systems, email, and other required clinical technology.
  • Commitment to ethical, culturally responsive, inclusive, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining responsive to clinical consultation and organizational requirements.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to report to the assigned office consistently and on time.
  • Ability to complete all required background checks, license verification, and onboarding requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, or families.
  • Experience serving culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations.
  • Advanced training in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, family systems, attachment-based interventions, or trauma-informed care.
  • Experience with trauma recovery, family conflict, reunification, substance use, court-involved services, or high-conflict family systems.
  • Familiarity with insurance documentation, medical-necessity requirements, utilization review, and clinical compliance standards.
  • Experience using electronic health record and practice-management systems.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency, particularly Spanish, is highly valued.

Working Conditions

  • This is an in-person position based at the assigned Wings of the Future office.
  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is an essential requirement.
  • The therapist must provide services from a private, professional, and clinically appropriate treatment space.
  • The schedule may include daytime, evening, or weekend hours based on client and program needs.
  • Therapists must communicate absences, emergencies, and scheduling changes promptly.
  • Clinicians are expected to begin and end sessions on time and complete documentation within established deadlines.
  • The therapist must follow all facility safety, emergency-response, infection-control, confidentiality, and client check-in procedures.
  • Administrative responsibilities, meetings, training, or documentation may occasionally be completed remotely when authorized by leadership.
